You’ll ascend through misty highland trails to reach the crater rim just as the first light breaks over the horizon. Witness the otherworldly landscape of bubbling sulfur vents and steaming fumaroles in the glowing morning light.
After taking stunning photographs from the summit peak, we descend through the jungle toward Raja Berneh to rejuvenate in the natural volcanic hot springs of Lau Debuk-Debuk before having a traditional Indonesian breakfast and returning to your hotel in Medan.
It is a long day, about twelve hours door to door, but you do not need to stay in Berastagi the night before. The drive up to the highlands takes around two hours, so most guests sleep in the car on the way. For travelers based in Medan, it is the simplest way to stand on the crater rim at sunrise.
