How hard is the climb?

Moderate at most. Berastagi already sits at 1,300 m, so the actual ascent is about 900 m of gain over 1.5–2 hours on a maintained trail. Anyone in reasonable health can do it — we regularly guide first-time hikers and families. The summit (2,212 m) is cold before dawn, which is the bigger factor than fitness.

Is it safe to climb before dawn?

Yes — this is the standard schedule for sunrise, and it's what we've run since 2009 with zero incidents. You get a headlamp, a walking stick, a briefing, and a certified guide for the whole route. Masks are required near the sulfur vents and we provide them.

What should I bring?

Closed-toe shoes with grip, a warm jacket (summit temperatures drop to 8–10°C), a small daypack with water, and swimwear and a towel for the hot springs. Full checklist in the hiking guide.

When is the best time to climb?
